Imam Mahdi AS said, “The luminosity of faith is enough to understand the meaning of Quran.” The above saying simplifies our quest to understand our religion which is the Holy Quran and the teachings of the Prophet Mohammed PBUH. There is a lot that is said about the Iman in the Holy Quran and by the Prophet Mohammed PBUH, but there is one reference that I would like to use which is from the Holy Quran:

The dwellers of the desert say: We believe. Say: You do not believe but say, We submit; and faith has not yet entered into your hearts; and if you obey Allah and His Apostle, He will not diminish aught of your deeds; surely Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.49:14

A person reading this verse can at least understand two things from it. Firstly, the place of Iman is in the heart. Secondly, if you don’t have Iman there MUST be something missing, for which Allah is forgiving and merciful. There is one narration from Hz Abu Huraira, “I have memorized two kinds of knowledge from Allah's Apostle. I have propagated one of them to you and if I propagated the second, then my throat would be cut (i.e. killed).” Hz Ali Rz once said, “I have been given some knowledge which if I share with people they will declare me kafir and kill me.” What kind of knowledge do we think these two were talking about? Could this knowledge be about things that have been clearly mentioned or could it be the knowledge of the unseen? It must be the knowledge of the unseen which can be understood from the event of Miraj. It is the same knowledge that was put in the heart of the Prophet Mohammed PBUH by Jibrail AS, which is Noor-e-Iman. During the time of the Prophet Mohammed PBUH, this knowledge of Noor-e-Iman was passed on only to those who were able to understand it. After the advent of Mahdi AS, this same knowledge of Noor-e-Iman is to be given to everyone. How do we get this Noor-e-Iman? Noor-e Iman is acquired from the remembrance of Allah. The best remembrance of Allah is: la ilaaha il Allah, which literally means “there is no god except Allah.” Other than the literal meaning, it also has many other meanings to it. Without going into detail of the many meanings, the most important one is: “there is no one present except Allah.” To understand this meaning of la ilaaha il Allah, one should be on a spiritual level of complete negation of oneself and have a spiritual experience of the oneness of Allah. This is possible only by Zikr, which is the practice of the remembrance of Allah by negation of oneself with your spiritual guide, your Murshid. This is the first baby step that everyone has to take in order to attain that Noor-e-Iman because without it there is no understanding of our religion. Books only give you one aspect of the religion, but to complete it you need Noor-e-Iman.

Today’s Mahdavi youth are more interested in what is being preached by the non-Mahdavi scholars. They not only judge the Murshids of today, but go to the extent of judging Imam Mahdi AS based on the knowledge of these non-Mahdavi scholars. These “self proclaimed” Mahdavis accept only those sayings or acts of Mahdi AS which are easier to follow and which do not distinguish them from their non-Mahdavi scholars. To understand the religion of Allah, take the baby step and gain Noor-e-Iman. Surely Allah will complete your religion. Otherwise, He is forgiving and merciful as He is to all Mankind.
